Barcelona's Determination to Bring Him Home"

5 June 2023, Mumbai: Barcelona is determined to explore every possibility to bring back their legendary player, Lionel Messi, to the club despite mounting speculation about his potential move to Saudi Arabia. The Catalan club has been diligently working on restructuring its finances to ensure that they can afford Messi’s return, especially if the Argentina star decides to make a comeback to the Spanish league following his tenure with Paris Saint-Germain.

PSG Announces Messi’s Leave.

Recently, PSG officially announced that Messi would not be staying with the club for another season, sparking interest from clubs like Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia and Inter Miami in the United States, who reportedly offered lucrative deals to the football icon. However, Barcelona remains a potential option for Messi due to his deep-rooted connection with the club, where he flourished for almost two decades before departing for PSG in 2021 amidst Barcelona’s financial challenges.

While Barcelona’s financial situation has improved, reintegrating Messi into the squad would pose challenges in meeting the strict financial fair play regulations of the Spanish league. Barcelona President Joan Laporta expressed optimism about the possibility, stating, “It’s not easy, but we’ll see.” The club is currently working with the league to secure an adequate salary cap for the upcoming season. Additionally, Barcelona must include certain players, such as playmaker Gavi, who were registered with the youth squads. Nevertheless, the departure of veterans like Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba has provided some essential salary cap space.

Following up with the Past.

To bolster their squad following Messi’s departure and address the team’s struggles, Laporta and the board made necessary changes. They sold 25% of the club’s Spanish league TV rights for the next 25 years, along with other assets, injecting funds into the squad’s reconstruction. This enabled Barcelona to secure signings such as Robert Lewandowski, Jules Koundé, and Raphinha. Despite clinching the league title for the first time since 2019, the team faced difficulties in the Champions League and the Europa League. Their triumph in the Spanish Super Cup in January, defeating rival Real Madrid in the final, marked their first title since Messi’s departure.

During his illustrious 17-year tenure with Barcelona, the 35-year-old Messi played an instrumental role in securing 35 titles for the club, including four Champions Leagues, 10 Spanish leagues, and seven Copa del Reys. His remarkable achievements also earned him a record six Ballon d’Or awards, solidifying his status as the world’s top player. Messi holds the club’s all-time scoring record with an astonishing 672 goals in 778 appearances and also remains the leading scorer in the history of the Spanish league with 474 goals in 520 matches. Moreover, his tally of 26 goals against Real Madrid stands as a record for the historic “clasico” matches between Barcelona and their fiercest rivals. Despite the challenges and intense competition for Messi’s services, Barcelona is leaving no stone unturned in their pursuit to bring their prodigal son back home. The fans eagerly await the outcome of this enticing saga, hoping to witness Messi donning the iconic blaugrana jersey once again, creating magic on the Spanish soccer stage.
