Launches Operations in Tanzania, East Africa!"

27 May 2023, Mumbai: Gravita India Limited, a renowned recycling company with a global manufacturing presence, is pleased to announce the commencement of commercial production of rubber recycling by its step-down subsidiary, Gravita Tanzania Limited, located in Tanzania, East Africa. This significant development marks a major milestone for Gravita as it expands its recycling capabilities into the African market.

In the initial phase, Gravita Tanzania Limited’s recycling plant boasts an impressive annual capacity of approximately 3,000 metric tons per annum (MTPA). The company has ambitious plans to further amplify this capacity to 6,000 MTPA in the future, demonstrating its commitment to sustainable and efficient waste management practices. To establish this state-of-the-art facility, Gravita invested a capital expenditure of Rs 3.86 Crores, which was entirely funded through internal accruals. This investment underscores the company’s dedication to driving positive environmental change while optimizing its production processes.

The introduction of this new recycling plant brings several advantages to Gravita Tanzania Limited. Firstly, it enables the company to reduce production costs significantly. Moreover, the implementation of this recycling process facilitates a notable reduction in carbon footprints. During rubber recycling, the plant generates pyrolysis oil, which Gravita Tanzania Limited will utilize as an alternative energy source for in-house recycling operations of battery and aluminum scrap. This sustainable approach aligns perfectly with Gravita Group’s environmental, social, and governance (ESG) vision. Additionally, this diversification of operations ensures improved synergy in the sourcing of scrap materials and enhances procurement optimization for Gravita Group. The company is also planning to replicate similar rubber recycling facilities at its other manufacturing locations, further bolstering its commitment to sustainable practices across all its operations.

Gravita’s foray into rubber recycling in Tanzania highlights its ongoing efforts to promote circular economy principles and reduce the environmental impact associated with waste disposal. With the commencement of commercial production, Gravita Tanzania Limited is poised to make a significant contribution to the sustainable development goals of both the company and the region.
